So part of my thought process is based on your personality types, the Troubleshooter and the Logician. However, I have to admit a bigger part of my reasoning is I think Asher would love your fashion sense and would contrast you so cutely.

Like, on a deep, core level, your personality types give me the impression of someone who’s thoughtful and analytical and capable of solving problems. Those are good traits for a beta’s mate, especially when Asher can have more social, impulsive tendencies. On a funsies level, I imagine Asher dresses like your typical So Cal dude, kinda surfer chic, and he loves your style and what an odd pair you make. Like, on all levels but especially physical, you are the embodiment of the black cat/golden retriever couple.

Asher loves everything about you, so many things about you he finds it hard to pick a favorite. He loves the contrast between your dark clothes and your bright nails, loves asking you to paint his while you’re at it so y’all can match. He loves watching FNAF theories with you, because he was definitely a FNAF teenager. He even loves watching scary movies with you though he’s terrible with them. Given we canonically know Asher to be a FOB fanboy, it’s hardly a leap to assume he’s a Blink fan, especially this song. I think this particular track is not only fun and nostalgic to him but captures his energy and vibes, how he felt when he first fell in love with you. It’s also catchy as hell, so you know he’s singing this at you full-volume all the time.

15 Questions For 15 Mutuals

Thanks for tagging me, @danjaley! I tag whoever wants to do this, as a lot of my mutuals were already tagged. 

1. Am I named after anyone? 

No, but I have a distant cousin with my name. We didn't know about each other until the 2010s.

2. When was the last time you cried? 

Like, actual crying? IDK, I got misty reading about two animals being buried together in a burrow in the Triassic.

3. Do you have kids? 

No, thankfully. I think they're great, but I'm not suited for anything other than occasional babysitting of children.

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? 

I don't think I do. I'm more of a hyperbole person. I can be very snarky, though.

5. What sports do you play/have you played? 

I loved going to crew camp in high school, but as I grew up in an area with gators and water snakes, I am also afraid of falling INTO the water. The feeling of propelling a boat with your own strength, though! I am not a very athletic person and my main exercise at the moment is walking (outdoors or on a treadmill) and shelving books.

6. What's the first thing you notice about other people? 

Probably their clothes. Not in a snobby way, but I'm not always good with faces, and it's easier sometimes to say "the patron in the blue shirt by the printer" or "you can't miss him, he's got his orange hat on again." (You'd be surprised how a neon orange ski cap blends into the environment.)

7. Scary movies or happy endings? 

I don't like scary movies, although I will read scary stories (and my sister made me listen to the Magnus Archives). But I'm not a happy endings all the time person, either. Mostly I just watch movies for the costumes, and scary movies don’t usually have a lot of fun costumes.

8. Any special talents? 

Finding the right book on the shelf. I've also been told I have a much better than normal memory of books by subject and where they're located. And--if I practice more--writing.

9. Where were you born? 

Albany, NY. Which is a nice enough city, but I’ve never actually lived in it. Funnily enough, I worked near the hospital I was born in for six months! Literally two blocks (and a few very tricky intersections) down, close enough to hear the sirens and medical helicopters. 

10. What are your hobbies? 

Simming, knitting (I have unfinished gifts to complete, ack), going into deep dives of research, reading, and watching television. I dream sometimes of joining a historical reenactment society, because that sounds fun even if I can’t sew. I also plan on starting a tulip garden this year, because I’m obsessed with tulips.

11. Do you have any pets? 

No, but one day I will. At the moment I live vicariously through my sister's and my friends' pets.

12. How tall are you? 

Five feet, five and a half inches. The half inch is important!

13. Fave subject in school? 

English, History, and Latin.

14. Dream job? 

Being a staff librarian. Or an archivist. Maybe both. And not having to move very far for the position, either. Or if I have to move far away, moving someplace where I don’t have to shovel snow...

1. Name 4 fictional characters who showcase your personality the best, with explanations if you want.

Sue Heck! I don't think I let all of it out, but on the inside, I constantly feel like I'm extremely Sue Heck-y, :')

Amy Santiago, in a lot of regards, I'll say. Uh, cares a lot about her friends, ambitious, and would basically die/murder for organization, but also socially awkward and, uh, mostly percepted as a goody-two-shoes. Also, true nerd™.

Mindy Lahiri! (I mean, again, this seems more of a who I feel like I am, and not who I come across as, cause those two things tend to differ on a variety of levels?)

Sam Winchester (you know I had to) Basically, we're both INFJs. I'm not even close to his level, but my brain officially ran out of characters so uh, empathetic, constantly interpreted as "boring" and the "brains", patient, *yearns to settle down with someone they love*, believes in second chances. The whole nine, but toned down XD

2. Aesthetic:

I'd usually have a hard time with this one, but I recently did a long thing about my aesthetic, so! I'm going to say, soft pastel, beige, and shades of white!! A tinge of light academia, but mostly unassumingly modern, and faded rainbows as watermarks.

3. Favorite musical/play? If you've never seen a musical or play, one you'd be interested in seeing?

You got me ~ never seen any. (I mean, school plays don't count, right?) I honestly have a bunch of musicals I want to see, recommendations from friends online, but somehow it always slips my mind. But, off the top of my head, @spot-the-brooklyn-pirate wanted me to check this one out, and I am looking forward to actually doing it sometime: Book of Mormon.

4. What's the best compliment you've ever received?

Mostly, anyone who says I, in any way, made them happy, literally gives me the best compliment ever. And uh, my sister called me inspiring once, and it stuck. When I nagged her into elaborating, she said she thought I was functional in spite of all my flailings, and self-analytic, and it didn't make sense to me, but I still think about that.

And a few people, over the course of time, have named some of my fics as their favorites, and those stay with me for a very long time.

5. How many times have you been in love?

Hardly once. She's still one of the most important people in the world to me, but as somebody great once said, if you don't fight for it, it doesn't count. And we didn't.

6. Embarrassing story or fact about yourself which now makes you laugh?

By far the most embarrassing thing I've ever done, is written a fic on wattpad which revolved around my own life, except for the fact that it really, really didn't. Long story shortened, I was in sixth grade, and had a surface-level-y crush on this guy, and it seemed like a brilliant idea at the time. In the story, we're all in senior year, though the authoress forgot pretty much all the real things about school XD it's not just cringy, but also extremely sixth-grade-y written, and it astounds me to this day that it went on to have like 18,000 views? (I managed to block the entire shtick out, until a few months back, when I randomly remembered and rushed to unpublish the work. *facepalm* it even had all our real names)

7. Favorite Disney/Pixar movie?

This one's so hard. Uh. Ratatouille, maybe?

8. Favorite flower/plant?

I regret having to confess that I probably don't have one :( but hey, my go-to answer for these ones is daisies, because they remind me of the lovely @daisy-jeon <3

9. What's your favorite holiday?

Holi :')

(I miss it being like the older times, though? Somehow it always clashes with my final exams these last few years, and Shelley is often not home, but it still really makes me happy, so just imagine how perfect it used to be, when I was a kid!!)

Rewatching The French Mistake!! A really great decision, haha!

The lovely comments an older fic of mine received, (about old Destiel, uwu) since a couple of big blogs happened to reblog it 🙈🙈🙈 and my activity started blowing up!!

A full-blown coffee high, which resulted in me being hilarious through a 98-message monologue to dish, eeeeee!!

11. What song would you play to introduce yourself to someone?

I'd been dreading this question the most, because I'm horrible at remembering good songs when I - need to be. Oofsies.

But I guess I could wing it with 'What About Us' by P!nk.

12. Name something that truly makes you peaceful even at your most stressful moments.

Writing about Character A of a ship going through said stressful moment, and Character B being the best possible responder to all of it. Projection's the key to functionality, kids.

13. What do you, did you, or would you study at college?

Would you, and will you, sound unfortunately like different questions to me, so I'm going to answer the one which is asked. I'd like to major in History, with a minor in English. (And to be crude for a bit, as my sister calls it, thus successfully be left solely employable as a teacher.)

14. This is kind of a weird one, but which outfit of yours makes you feel most like yourself?

My black Avenger's logo t-shirt, with this pink hooded, kinda-down-past-my-hips, not-warm-at-all jacket and any one of my numerous, mwuahaha, grey shorts.

I never said I'd go out of the house in that outfit, did I?

15. What is a quote you live by?

I don't think there aren't any. I'm just here, faking it till I make it. Still, if I had to choose? Misha's "Be Kind to Yourself so You can be Happy enough to Be Kind to Others" is something I aspire to live by.

16. Name the funniest playlist name you have.

I'm sad that I don't have any funnily named ones now. Sorry to disappoint, but I'm hoping that it counts a teensy bit that I have like seven playlists just for background shtuff when I'm working, and they're all named *extremely* similarly, with variations of the word "study" basically, but all have exceptionally different vibes.

But I really am sorry, and I'm going to try and up my playlist-humor-game.

18. What is a message you'd give your younger self if given a chance?

Don't build your sense of self-worth over the people whose opinions you think matter. You don't have to get everybody to like you. (Oh, and probably don't switch between multiple first-person-pov's, even though you're just writing the most unrealistic self-indulgent fiction EVER.)

Hands down, my sister. Shelley, didi, @iamcharliebradburylevelperfect, you're like the best part of my life, and you're probably going to be the longest part of it, too. 20. What's a secret dream of yours?

I, uh. Want to run a completely-revolutionalizing-the-concept-of-education-style school ~ a boarding school actually, with my best friend dish. And as a means to acquire funds for it? We're going to do a whole lotta stand-up. :D

Most of the time they fall asleep like completely tangled up in each other, but on the few occasions, I’d say Poe big spoon and Cassia little spoon.

How the whole situation with Aquilea and their role in it keeps fucking shit up for everyone involved.

4. Favorite non-sexual activity?

To be fair, they don’t get to spend a lot of time really, truly alone, so there are very little non-psysical activities having had there ^^’ but afterwards they love to just sit in bed and talk until they either fall asleep or one of them has to leave. Cassia loves when Poe tells her stories about his life on Yavin IV or his friends in the Resistance.

5. Who is most likely to carry the other?

I’d say Poe. Funnily enough the first one to carry the other is Cassia, though. Chapter 3, baby xD

6. What is their favorite feature of their partner’s?

Poe - as we already established - has a whole thing about her eyes. Cassia is in love with his smile and the way his whole face softens when he does.

7. What’s the first thing that changes when they realize they have feelings for the other?

oof… I’d say the usual. Having a hard time concealing their feelings in public. Long glances, covert touches as they pass each other; that sort of thing. There is a whole ass thing at her reinstatement ball when she is like given a list of people she is allowed to pick for her first dance (sorted by 0 for “most likely to sell us to the First Order” to 10 for “most eligible Aquilean bachelor”, but she panics and makes a very noticeable step towards Poe until a young councilman jumps in. So yeah… just a lot of pining overall.

8. Nicknames? & if so, how did they originate?

Technically not a nickname, but once on Aquilea, Cassia becomes Princess Aelia. Poe remains the only one calling her Cassia throughout this journey and the way he says her name, it becomes something like a caress.

Poe. That hotshot flyboy is anxiety in a flightsuit

10. Who remembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant?

Poe, he’s a romantic, so…

Leia doesn’t think it’s the brightest idea, but given the fact her late husband almost caused a war by breaking up her betrothal once she feels like she can’t exactly weigh in. Nioba’a, as any good Lady should, is absolutely against it and only changes her mind once she sees that it’s not just a fluke and that they really do love each other.

21. Who is more likely to start dancing with the other?

Poe, when after a long night of watching her dance with anyone but him, he finally gets to hold her. Sometimes, when he’s especially grumpy (and maybe mildly jealous) she will make him dance and show him he’s the only one she wanted to hold her all night.

Poe, because a lush jungle provides more means to become a great cook than the smelly shithole that is Lok.

When Cassia finds out that Poe initially wanted to leave her on Aquilea and only stayed because the Queen Mother wouldn’t aid the Resistance, but told him once Cassia was crowned Queen he could bring his plea before her. The Doctor skids 'round the corner with a mad laugh, chasing a creature that might have been a dog, if dogs had six eyes and were green. It was clear that she was enjoying the chase, and the creature was, too. "C'mere boy!" she called, waving a slimy tentacle-thing towards the- for lack of a better term- dog. "Got a nice yummy... uh... treat for you! Come one! We gotta get you back to the TARDIS before someone sees!" The creature let out a bark that sounded rather like a guinea pig squeak before bounding towards- and past- the Doctor, directly towards a man she had somehow overlooked before hidden in the shadows. "Hello! Don't mind us," she laughs nervously. "Had a bit of trouble with the leash. Acid spit and all. But he's harmless."

"I'm the Doctor. Know you didn't exactly mean to, but if you hadn't been here I'd probably have to chase him down another few blocks!"

Thankfully for the Doctor, Davos is no stranger to spatio-temporal anomalies. The only difference is, he sees them not as scientific, but  rather, mystical, and religious, phenomena.

She grins up at him after her joke, but somehow doesn't expect it to land. The Doctor watches that anger bubble just below the surface. "Let me guess. Your brother was the one who's mess you came to clean up?" she asked sympathetically. "A healer? Yeah, I s'pose you could say that. Among other things. Healer, scientist, inventor, etcetera etcetera. How'd you end up here?"

Davos's whole face wrinkles. This woman reminds him of Claire Temple: the last healer whom he knew, a friend to his brother Danny, and to that whore from the Hand who turned Danny fully against him.   But despite her dubious allegiances, Claire had been just as kind and bright-souled.

She had even gotten him to consume a slice of pizza. It was chewy. But it wasn't quite so poisonous as he'd suspected. "Excessive chatter is a vexation to the spirit," he comments reluctantly. But he doesn't move away from her.

"You are skilled at deflecting questions," he further comments, making no note of her accurate assessment of his situation.

"So are you," she grins at him. He's not much taller than her, but he is broad, and she feels rather small at his side. "Strong, silent type, I get it. Used to be the same myself, a few lifetimes back." The Doctor eyes him. Despite her cheerful demeanor, she can tell that Davos is deeply unhappy. More than that, he's angry, and angry, unhappy people can be dangerous if they're pushed the wrong direction. "You say you came here to clean up your brother's mess? Have you managed it? Or is it something I might be able to assist with? Believe it or not, I'm really very clever. I might be more help than you think."

As he walks, with haste and drive, forgetting the purpose of walking with her--to collect intel--his lips loosen. "It's a nonissue. I took from him a power he was far too irresponsible to wield, but he stole it a second time, and gave it to his lover.  A woman who long  belonged to a terrorist organization called the Hand, an abominable body of deceivers who turned children into weapons in the name of 'cleansing' society. Those whom I serve are the true healers of this world and its cancers.  I have been deprived of my birthright at every turn, and I very much doubt one eccentric woman from another dimension could fix that."

She calls him strong and silent; it's not the first time he's been teased for his serious nature. It always slides off him like water droplets off oily feathers.   This time it spreads an odd warmth in the pit of him.

He stops and turns to face her; pleasure. Pleasure is dangerous. Pleasure is self-indulgence. Indulgence does not come into the equation of a warrior, or a weapon. "For all I know, you could be an operative of theirs, come to monitor me in my hour of liberation. Come to stop me, since I escaped prison."

He advances on her quickly then, with an expression of dangerous but carefully lidded rage.

Funnily enough, she doesn't say it to tease him about his stoic nature. She finds it rather grounding. But The Doctor's brows furrow, a little line forming between them as he talks about this group called The Hand. People who turn children in to weapons. 'Cleansing' society. The idea makes her gut churn with disgust. "You'd be surprised what I'm capable of," she says rather darkly, her smile slipping from her face. Instantly, the Doctor knows whose side she's on as she contemplates some way to learn more about the Hand. She's too caught up in her own thoughts to notice the shift in his mood, and by the time she does, he's upon her. The Doctor is struck again with how much bigger he is, despite being barely an inch taller than she is. "Don't you think if I was an operative of this Hand group I'd have made some move to stop you?" she replied stiffly, her eyes narrowing at him. "Why would I offer to help you? I protect this planet from people and groups exactly like the one you're describing. Hurting kids? Turning them into weapons? No, I don't think so." She is all too familiar with children being used as pawns for the ambitions of people who are meant to be their protectors.

He balks.  A storm is kicking up but he scarcely notices.

"I think that if you're saying THAT, it's more proof you're not Hand than anything else, because you've clearly got no idea how low they can stoop.  And how good they are at lying." He raises from his fighting crouch, a rather eloquent pose that twists his arms and wrists and renders one combative unit of his whole beautifully poised body. It begins to rain. They're both soaked in minutes. He doesn't even notice.  He doesn't even blink as the droplets roll off his close-shaven head and long eyelashes.

"What will you offer me, if I agree to go where you lodge?"

Davos steps back and the Doctor straightens, her expression still a little sour. "I've known people like that my whole life, and believe me when I say that's a very long time. I'm not much for violence, but... I can make exceptions." She isn't overly concerned about the rain, but pulls up her hood, though it doesn't do much good in the torrential rain. "A bed to rest, for one. But I can help you find whoever it is you're looking for. I have a ship. I can travel anywhere, might be able to track down the Hand and help you stop them."

" . . . . . " He's clearly weighing his options.  His attire is, literally, a paper-thin, too-big hoodie, and blue, sopping hospital scrub pants.  And no shoes. Normally, while abroad outside the sanctum of K'unlun, Davos wears sharp-tailored, austere black business suits.  And smells like very rare, very expensive incense.

To call him unusually unkempt, unusually desperate, in this moment, is an understatement. "They've been disbanded. Their leaders scattered.  Some dead.  I am a warrior without an honor code, or a people, to protect." He's trying to remain calm, but there are very protrusive veins in the center of his forehead and his neck. "I am directionless." He grinds his jaw. "I have nothing. Nothing but my principles. Principles everyone living but me has abandoned."

The Doctor steps forward, almost timidly, as if he's a skiddish creature that might flee if she gets too close. "Then perhaps it's time to regroup. Time to take a little time to find yourself again." She knows only too well what it feels like to lose oneself. To feel alone in the universe. "I said my ship can travel anywhere, but it can also travel in time. You can recover without having to worry about taking too long." She offers him a small smile. "It's an open offer, one you don't have to accept. But I know what it's like to feel directionless."

Davos doesn't comment upon the distinctions made, not at first.  But then, wetting his lips with his tongue, he turns to her.  Even his manner of movement is somehow uncompromisingly forthright.  "I was always taught compassion was a form of weakness. Because it is good to turn upon one's friends, but when you turn it upon your enemies, it allows them the upper hand.

"You would have me show weakness, and then, does that not compromise the integrity of my protection?"

He pauses mid-philosophy, however, to glance around. "I don't understand, where is your home?"

The Doctor glances at him, a slightly amused smile on her lips. "There's the flaw in your logic, Davos. Compassion isn't weakness. It's strength. It takes incredible strength to show compassion to an enemy  someone you hate. Compassion has the power to change hearts and minds." She points to a blue police box at the end of the alleyway. "Right there. Can't believe you'd miss it, all lit up like a Christmas tree?" the Doctor teases as they approach. She opens the door and bows. "After you."

"I CANNOT agree with that!" he snaps, raising his voice for the very first time since they've met.  It's sudden and fiery and it's gone just as fast. I cannot  contradict my dead mother, who could not tell me that she loved me. Who WOULD not. I still cannot turn against her, I STILL cannot. " . . . . I shouldn't have shouted, that. Was beneath my station. Forgive me." He glances at the police box. He  steps up to it. He walks around it.  He stares at her, mirthlessly, but the faintest wanness enters his tone when he speaks again. " . . . . It would be a rather snug fit."

"There's nothing wrong with disagreeing with someone," she muses. "No need for apologies." But she knows there's so much more to it than she can possibly glean from their short conversation. "Why don't you step inside. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how spacious things can be with good decorating."

"It is a warped dimension..a wormhole?" He turns to her, genuinely intrigued."It reminds me of home."[7:09 PM]K'unlun, accessed through a gateway, a kind of window into another dimension in the middle of a snowy mountain range. A similar trick of space and time.

Davos simply nods, sharp and precise. He ascends the stairs as if it's a holy mission from the gods.  He pivots at an exact 90 degree angle and finds the fifth door on the left. Inside is a massive wardrobe full of attire that would bleach the hair of the most stalwart warrior.  Why is there celery on that suitcoat? Why is that scarf covered in rainbows?  Why are there Converse in multiple colors? "This is absurd."

He wrinkles his nose in distaste. Nevertheless within ten minutes he settles on a combination of the most neutral colors he can find, which come from the Eleventh Doctor's wardrobe, minus, of course, that hideous bowtie. He returns to the Doctor's side with the same bemused expression. "Are you a shape-shifter?  You have clothes for at least twelve other beings up there."

What is she, the bloody Monkey King????

"Time Lord," she replies conversationally. While he was gone, she did a quick sweep of the console room and chucked some stale snack wrappers in the bin. A quick filter of the oxygen in the room has the TARDIS smelling... well. Maybe not fresh, but certainly not like a Frito-Lays factory. "I can regenerate. Change my form when I'm seriously injured. Good job on the count though. Thirteen others. Not twelve." The Doctor finally looks up and smiles. He actually looks rather handsome in her old clothes. "You clean up well. Decided where you want to go? Still determined to impress you."

OC Interview: Rynne Hawke

I did this already for Fenris the Inquisitor and I’ve been tagged again by the precious @littlesnowarrow, so here we go - Fenris’s partner in love and in crime kicking Coryfish’s ass or whatever: the infamous Rynne Hawke! (Art by the delightful @schoute!) 

The rules: Answer the following questions as your OC of choice. 

(Like for Fenris’s interview, let’s pretend some journalist from Val Royeaux is interviewing Rynne for Inquisition “publicity reasons”.) 

1. What’s your name?

Rynne Hawke! But everyone just calls me Hawke. 

2. Do you know why you are named that?

My father liked the name, I think. [laughs] I mean, why do parents ever name their children anything? Either because they like the name, or because they want to jack themselves off by naming their brats the same thing as themselves. [Beside her, Fenris makes an odd noise and rubs his mouth.] What? What did I say?

3. Are you single or taken?

Taken. Frequently and very, very well, thank you for asking. [Fenris snorts, stands up while muttering something about Inquisition business, then leaves the room.] Hey, where are you going?

4. Have any abilities or powers?

Yes. I’m a mage. 

5. Stop being a Mary Sue.

Ooh, I’ve not heard of that one. Is that a sex position I don’t know about? I’ll have to ask Bull about that.

6. What’s your eye color?

Some say amber, some say copper, some say whiskey... A lovely shade of golden-brown, as you can see. [charming grin]

7. How about your hair color?

Boring brown, I’m afraid. 

8. Have any family members?

[small laugh] Living ones, I assume you mean? There’s Fenris, of course. Toby, my big hairy baby. Carver, my big hairy baby brother. Oh, and our uncle Gamlen is still kicking around in Lowtown, according to Aveline. 

9. Oh? How about any pets?

Oh. I suppose Toby? But... no, I take that back. He’s a family member, not a pet.

10. That’s cool, I guess. Now tell me something you don’t like.

I don’t like wearing shoes and socks. I wish I had nice hard elfy soles so I could go around barefoot like some handsome elves I know.

11. Do you have any activities/hobbies that you like to do?

Of course! We like reading, playing cards, gossiping and going out for drinks, and... well. Never mind. Fenris wouldn’t be too pleased if I told you about the rest. [wiggles her eyebrows salaciously.]

[From the adjacent room, Fenris calls out: “I can hear you. I am right here.”]

Oh good! So does that mean I can tell them about our sex life? Fenris? [a long pause ensues] Is that a no?

12. Have you hurt anyone in any way before?

Absolutely. Especially if they’re trying to hurt us first.

13. Ever… killed anyone before?

Um, absolutely. It’s a kill-or-be-killed kind of world out there! Maker’s balls, Is this the first time you’ve poked your head out of Val Royeaux in months? What sort of questions are these?

14. What kind of animal are you?

Hmm. Now that’s a great question. Funnily enough, I wouldn’t say a hawk. [calls out to the adjacent room] Fenris! What kind of animal am I?

[Fenris replies: “A mabari. You are extremely loyal, exceedingly affectionate, and utterly vicious and lethal when necessary.” Rynne smiles.] 

Awww, I love you too. 

15. Name your worst habits?

I don’t have any. I’m perfect. 

[Fenris calls out once again: “She is a terrible blanket hog. And yet she complains about being cold at night.”] 

Hey, that’s not fair! [she leans in conspiratorially to the interviewer] I just tell him I’m cold so he has to hug me. It works every time. 

16. Do you look up to anyone at all?

Absolutely. He’s sitting in the next room. 

17. Are you gay, straight or bisexual?

Bisexual, thank you for asking. What about you? What kind of genitalia do you most enjoy fondling? [widens her eyes when the interviewer doesn’t reply] What’s wrong, are you shy?

18. Do you go to school?

If you mean sitting in Solas’s rotunda and asking him as many questions as I can to see if there is anything he doesn’t know, then yes. Absolutely. [whispers] I have yet to ask him anything he doesn’t have an answer to. It’s frankly insane.

19. Ever want to marry and have any kids one day?

[bursts out laughing] Did you know we’ve been engaged for over two years? Honestly, that’s good enough for me. Weddings are so expensive. Who needs a big party for no reason? Not me. [laughs some more. She sounds slightly nervous.]

20. Do you have any fangirls/fanboys?

Absolutely. Oh no wait, that’s the mob of faithful Andrastians who want my head on a spike. Next question please! [chuckles]

21. What are you most afraid of?

[she hesitates, then laughs.] What Dorian will be wearing every day, honestly. I don’t know where Vints get their fashion sense from, but I can understand why the Qunari are always so angry at them.

[In the adjacent room, Fenris snorts.]

22. What do you usually wear?

[leans back leisurely on the couch and slowly crosses her legs] Have a look for yourself. Don’t be shy.

23. What one food tempts you?

Oh fuck yes. You know those Rivaini roasted vegetable crisps that they toss with the sweet and spicy rub? I love those things. I would die for a bowl of those. I should ask Leliana about getting our hands on some of those. Seems like important Inquisition business, right?

24. Am I annoying you?

Not at all! I could do this all day. 

25. Well, it’s still not over!

Go ahead! 

26. What class are you (low/middle/high)?

Ooh. Funny question, that. I suppose I’ve been all over the place? I’m the Inquisitor’s lady now, so I guess that makes me rather fancy and high-class. 

27. How many friends do you have?

Everyone is my friend! Unless they try to kill me or Fenris. Or Toby, or Carver or Varric, or... shit, maybe I don’t have that many friends. [throws her head back and laughs] 

28. What are your thoughts on pie?

I love it. Why, do you have some? Now you’ve got me wanting some. Thanks for that.

29. Favourite drink?

Brandy! Antivan is best.

30. What’s your favourite place?

Oh. Aww... you know what, I really loved the study in my old house in Kirkwall. It was just... there were a lot of memories there. The study and the bedroom. [she winks.] That’s all I’ll say. 

31. Are you interested in anyone?

Yes. I’m very interested in the Inquisitor. He’s fascinating. So intelligent and handsome, with such a nice growly voice...

[From the next room, Fenris calls out again: “Kaffas, Hawke, you will make me blush.”] 

Good. That’s what I was hoping for. [laughs]

32. That was a stupid question…

Not at all! I’ll take any and every opportunity to rave about Fenris. He’s my favourite. [A soft chuckle and an indistinct Tevene curseword can just barely be heard from the other room.] 

33. Would you rather swim in the lake or the ocean?

Ocean! I know there are just as many living things in oceans and lakes, but somehow oceans feel... cleaner? Less muddy and more sandy. It’s hard to explain. 

34. What’s your type?

White-haired elves with lyrium tattoos and dirty thoughts. 

35. Any fetishes?

I’ll tell you a terrible secret: not really. Though with Bull being around and putting all these ideas in everyone’s head, who knows what could happen? [wiggles eyebrows and grins]

36. Camping indoors or outdoors?

Camping indoors? Isn’t that just... normal indoor living? Or are you talking about building a pillow fort? Because that’s just ludicrous. [calls out to the other room] Fenris, can you ask Josie to send us about twenty more pillows?

[Fenris replies: “No.”]

Damn. Worth a shot. Oh, is that all? All right. Swing by the tavern later if you have a chance! No guarantees Varric won’t bet you out of your own pants, though.

My brain refuses to rest even if I wanna sleep, so maybe this can help.

1. Um, it depends on how because if it's characters that comfort me, definitely Sokka from ATLA (he makes me laugh so much and also amazes me, I love him sm), in personality because of what his main struggle is, it would be Tao from Heartstopper. I have only watched the series but his story line speake to me in so many levels- I kid you not, I had the same struggle with a girl that right now, is my best friend <3 we have six years of friendship and i could not be more happy about it. And funnily enough, that same friend recommended me the series. (Btw, that's the longest friendship I have had with anyone besides the family I live with)

2. I don't often use lighters but I guess they are more convenient, so lighters.

3. Nope, it would make me feel more anxious that I already feel.

4. Um, the existence of a god I guess. Also, creatures deep in the ocean.

5. They are a really dark brown.

6.do what? Have dark brown eyes? I don't know either. Ask my chromosomes.

DGM 230 - Panthaleia’s Translation Notes

IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN

That is, your quarterly reminder that I'm still alive! As are the rest of StarBuds, hip hip hooray.

Big gorgeous 35-page chapter this time around, so let's jump right in!

1.) I have been informed that the cityscape referenced in the opening setting panels here is Edinburgh, Scotland:

Edinburgh is in fact in Scotland, buuuut this is somewhat complicated by the fact that Hoshino-sensei did something weird with the naming here (wow, shock). 

Though she calls London "London" and Paris "Paris" and is therefore presumably fine with giving real-world cities their real-world names, she calls the town our heroes just landed in "Edinston" rather than "Edinburgh" and says it's in "Igirisu," which is a Japanese world describing both the United Kingdom and — more commonly — England in particular. There are existing Japanese words for both "Scotland" and "Edinburgh," and they are notably not used. 

To be as safe as possible, I've transliterated the town name directly and used "Britain" wherever "Igirisu" was used, to leave the door open for either possibility to be true. 

As for Allen's nationality: that's still up in the air, too, because this town is only where he met Mana in the circus and the events of Lost Fragment of Snow transpired, not where he was born or where he joined up. He's definitely from somewhere in the UK, but beyond that? Pick your favourite and have fun, haha.  

2.) HALLELUJAH AMEN, IT'S RAINING MEN (enjoy those nightmares, kids! :D)

3.) Oh my god, they forgot the bracelets. Rest in pieces. 

(Also: the implication that if Komui had made them they were probably broken because things Komui makes work so terribly well the people whose lives they're meant to improve often end up worse off in the end is both hilarious and painful. See: Komurin. But because Reever made it, coming off is a failsafe meant to protect the users from unforeseen circumstances, because he actually thinks things all the way through most of the time.)

4.) "the ground smells different" I mean okay to be entirely fair, this is a real thing that I've noticed myself, but this is still... so funny.... such a dog person thing to say.....

5.) The "one more step" line was more literally "if you intend to keep running any more than this," with the implication that Kanda would rather just kill him right now and have done than take one more step in his pursuit. (Kandas are natural sprinters; very dangerous over short distances.)

Kanda: both? both is good

8.) Okay now for a bit of the kind of thing I actually make these posts for:

"神の結晶" (kami no kesshou) is a very interesting term that was first (and possibly only ever the once, I still haven't read all the raws) used in chapter 007, during Komui's guided tour of the Order:

Komui: A substance of mysterious power some call the "crystal of God."

The fun thing about this is that while pretty much everyone opted to translate kesshou as "crystal" — the "crystal of God" — the word also (and more often) means "crystallization (of)". As in, Innocence is the crystallized and shattered body of God. 

Funnily enough, when I went back to 197 to find a panel for the next point, I also found this while skimming:

Guro!Tokusa: We [AKUMA] will [kill/destroy] God (f: the Innocence).

The kanji say "God", the furigana say "Innocence," and that is what Hoshino does when things are meaningfully related and/or synonymous. By destroying the Innocence, they are killing God, because the Innocence was not made by God, but of God.

Soooo since this is my translation and that felt like a Sign, I'm going with "crystallization," to hell with it.

 9.) This part is new favourite ever, oh my god. Kanda not only understanding the feelings of others, but trying to teach empathy to Allen?? Oh, how the turntables~! 

And then!! Allen accusing Kanda of sticking his nose in where it isn't welcome, and Kanda's like "POT, KETTLE, ASSHOLE" because this is exactly what Allen did to/for him in North America over Alma. "Call this payback for what you said" refers to this bit in 197:

Allen: You're not even trying to face Alma head-on...

Kanda: Now who isn't facing things head-on?

ALSOOOO the callback to chapter 005, wherein Kanda cut Allen's arm with Mugen for an entirely different reason:

Allen's self-sacrificing hypocrisy, however well meant, is being called out increasingly hard as the story goes on, and I'm all about it. He keeps trying to make people's decisions for them, and though it's true that he's doing it because he's scared for them, it's still not at all his call to make. He's treating them like children, not his friends, and ignoring their very clearly stated wish to see this through with him, but even so they're standing firm on the decisions they made for themselves. justcommunication.mp3

9.) And the flipside: despite his terror of seeing his loved ones hurt, he actually is still properly scared for himself and desperately doesn't want to be alone. Their presence made everything both worse for him (because they cranked up the stakes even higher being within impact range) and better (because he wasn't alone in the sightless, murderous dark). His torn heart here is so real and it hurts just to watch. In the best of ways.

10.) Aaaand there's where the "fool" line comes back in: when Allen accepts that he's guilty of exactly the same thing he took Kanda to task for, and they've just exchanged shoes. This chapter is a gift to me personally, thank you Hoshino-no-kami.  

11.) He's grieving for Tim properly now, thank god. This is tremendously painful too, but so much better than the blank dissociation from before. Now he can walk on through the rest of the grieving process with everything moving within him as it should. 

12.) I definitely thought for a hot minute that the Mana-marked tree was Cornelia and he jumped them straight to the mansion, but it's definitely not. It's in a small square in a city, whereas Cornelia is on the vast Canbell property, and it wouldn't make any sense for the circus to have been parked on the front lawn of the place Mana ran away from. So the plot isn't jumping ahead quite as fast as I initially thought, but it is going somewhere!! For real!!!

13.) The little "is your stomach empty, too" aside is because he thinks Allen is grubbing around in the dirt for food. (Take a glance at the fancy ants and maybe... try a few? ♫) 

14.) Furigana on "Allen" in "where Allen was born" say "I," and "born" really says "hajimari", "beginning". I took a tiny bit of poetic liberty on that one and I don't think it'll affect anything but if it does, now you know.

What a killer chapter, I'm so delighted. January is going to be amazing.

1. What is the name you go by?

“Leonnaux, though most of Alizarine refers to me as ‘Leon.’ I don’t mind it, really; it certainly has a ring to it. Funnily enough, my girlfriend actually refers to me fully as ‘Leonnaux,’ barring any pet names! At the end of the day, it comes down to preference and how willing one is to navigate bullshite Elezen names, I suppose.”

2. What is your real name?

He hesitates. “Leonnaux Altoix.”

*OOC Note: Lie detected. His real name is Leonnaux Declurais. He uses an assumed surname to distance himself from his family back in Gridania, and make himself feel closer to his long-missing father.

3. Do you know why you are named that?

“Why is anyone named anything? I suppose my mother just liked the name, I suppose. As for Altoix... I’m not sure where it comes from.”

4. Are you single or taken?

“I’m in a relationship, aye. Her name is Edda Vincents. We’ve not been without our difficulties, particularly erm... Recently, but that comes with the territory, I think. I do my best to support her, when she’ll let me, and I’ll love her always.” Mushy as it is, a big grin breaks across his lips and he gives a stern nod.

5. Have any abilities or powers?

“I’m versed in magic, if that’s what you’re asking. Namely, I practice arcanima, and would consider myself reasonably skilled at it, although I struggle with the, erm... Putting the theory into practice occasionally. Other than that, I’m skilled with arcanima, and... Well... I don’t think that qualifies as a power, really...” He trails off in a huff.

*OOC Note: Leon has the Echo (visions only), but he doesn’t know what it is. These visions are also liable to make him very, very sick, and he has no idea what causes them, so as far as he’s concerned at the moment they’re just an unfortunate medical condition.

“Um! That’s actually pretty tough. I would wager... Uh... Well. At the moment, I really like these pastries that they sell in the lobby of the Sultana’s Breath...”

“I have a cat, uh... “At length? I think I’ll spare you the trouble... I despise people who put their bloodthirst before anything else. They ought to know better than anyone that lives have weight; to believe otherwise is to paint yourself as a psychopath. I’m also not particularly fond of tribal people, oh—But Edda would get onto me if she knew I said that out loud. And before you say anything: yes, I’m a Duskwight. No, you don’t understand the intricacies of why we are regarded as we are.”

“I enjoy... Studying. Gambling, from time to time. Reading drama. And drinking. Spending time with Edda... Chewing the fat with my coworkers... I’ll listen to a good bard from time to time. That shite takes me back; had things been different, maybe I could have been the one up on stage...!”

“Physically? Emotionally? Physically, I struggle to think I could hurt anyone. I’m hardly a grisled warrior like Ben or Jin. Some harm to body may have resulted, a few times, from spells I’ve cast, but I try to keep my spells benign. Emotionally? ... Certainly.”

“No, and I refuse to allow myself to be responsible for taking a life, even by proxy.””

“Caw?” He does a remarkable impression of a crow.

“I have been told racism. Drinking, occasionally to excess. But I will not have it said that I’m not principled.”

“Not many, being an Elezen.” He pauses. “What? Fine. I suppose I look up to a few people; Edda chief among them, but of course I’d admire her. Beyond that, I suppose Madison most times and Khada some others. I haven’t been in a position to be mentored or otherwise subservient to another in a very long time. That is not to say I’m not open to being taught a few things, but it makes coming up with people I look up to difficult... Considering the kinds of crowds I tend to run with. Of all my endeavors, Alizarine is the only one that is clean.”

“You’re asking about my sexual preferences, right? I’m happily taken. But if I weren’t, I think I could see myself as easily with a man as I could a woman.”

“I never went to school. I was taught how to read and do basic maths by a family friend, and then everything else I know, I taught myself.”

“Uh... The idea of getting married is... Not altogether unappealing, but I don’t think I’m ready for such a major step. As for children... I would make a shite father. So no.”

“Things so marvellously stylish that you will wonder how I afforded them! The boots are Fen-Yll.”

“... Upper-middle? I’m no member of the Syndicate, but I’m hardly poor. I own property. I run a research company. I’m comfortable.”

“Both are excellent, especially apple pie and apple cake, which I promise exists. My mother used to make it for us all the time as kids using faerie applies she’s pick from these trees on the—Oh, I made myself sad.”

“Alcoholic? I fancy myself a bit of a mixologist these days, so I’ve come up with a few interesting combinations that I enjoy. Chief among them are Gold Court cocktails, on sale frequently at The Cloak & Dagger. I also like the restaurant’s titular cocktail... As for non-alcoholic, lassi is good. Fruit juices. Water. I don’t sit down and drink milk, really, but sometimes I get... Cravings?”

31. What’s your favorite place?

“Home. Or The Brimming Heart, in the Goblet.”

32. Are you interested in someone?

“I’m in a relationship! Of course I’m interested in her!”

Answer the odd numbers!

Oh, wow, that’s a lot XD I’ll try to do as many as I can, but I shall try to keep it briefer than usual. If something is too difficult, then I’ll skip. Let’s go! 1) Spotify, SoundCloud, or Pandora? My friends are trying to get me into spotify, I tend to use soundcloud more, but my preferred way of finding new music has often ended up being accidentally leaving youtube on in a tab after a song finished, and having it cycle through sort-of related music.

3) what color are your eyes?Reasonably light brown. Someone was once nice enough to tell me they look like honey, when I’m in the sun.

5) what is your relationship status? Not where I see myself in the longterm.

7) what color hair do you have?Darkish brown. I dye it almost exactly the colour it naturally is. Or was, before the Grey Hair Fairy frosted my temples with some serious silver.

They asked me why I didn’t invite them to my party, and I gave them a reason that was both untrue and rude, and in the end I invited them and I came. But I’m still not sure why I did that.

37) do you read a lot? whats your favorite book? I love to read, with a passion. But I go through periods where I read a lot, and others when I read much less. Picking one book would be an impossibility.

41) top 10 favorite songsThis would probably require too much thought to answer right now.

43) what is your skin type? (oily, dry, etc)Oily. Definitely wasn’t blessed on the skin front, but such is life. Weirdly, friends keep telling me they thinl I have clear skin, and I’m like ‘whose face have you been looking at?!’ Which just does to show that we’re the only ones who notice our own blemishes. Take for example, scars. I have a few (!!) on my face, and people can know me for years and not realise they are there. Then literally turn around one day and say “OMG, what happened to your FACE?” To which I reply… “Um, nothing? It’s always like this.”.

45) how many kids do you want? This is not something I’ve really thought about? Enough to keep each other company, but not so many that I’m spending the next 500 years changing nappies. So 2 or 3, I guess?

47) what type of house do you live in? (big, small, etc) Whatever kind of house I can afford. I don’t realistically see myself affording to live in London, and I don’t realistically see any chance of a big house if I live in the UK. But such is life.

49) what was the last compliment you received?On one of my recent night shifts, one of the nurses asked me where I was from. And I told her (people don’t usually know, or care, much about my country, but I see no reason to lie), and she said “I wanted to know why, because you are so confident. The way you talk” And I was taken aback. “Confident? ME? Really?!?”. To which she replied, laughing “You think you are not?”.  All this time I’ve been quite reserved, and always told by my seniors that I ought to have more faith in my clinical decisionmaking and just be more assertive, it was quite surprising to find out that someone saw me bumbling along on my night shift and thought I looked and sounded confident. 51) how old were you when you found out santa wasn’t real?Probably around 7? I was apparently not amused. I can’t remember. In retrospect, perhaps it’s odd that I always knew about the birds and the bees but not about Santa.53) opinion on smoking?Not a good idea, but often understandable. Nearly always started when we are very young, in order to fit in or belong. I grew up with one parent being a smoker (they quit, yay!) and have friends who smoked since their teens, so I can understand how hard it is to give up, and what addiction means. But one thing I really don’t understand is grownups “socially smoking”. At all. It’s flirting with addiction, has no benefits, and just drains your money?  I feel that most people my age who indulge in social smoking really should probably know better. But then that applies to many things in our lives.

55) what is your dream job? To be a magical girl/superhero. Being a doctor who draws comics shall, however, suffice until I get called into service by a cute magical familiar.

57) do you take shampoo and conditioner bottles from hotels? I used to use them, but I wouldn’t say that I would stock up on the whole stash. Though I have a sad feeling that they chuck the ones you don’t use, so maybe we should all be taking them?

59) do you smile for pictures?I used to never smile for pictures, because I had over-large incisors with a noticeable gap in them, and felt really self-conscious about them for most of my life. Then I stopped caring. But lately I realised my teeth no longer look oversized, and the gap has kind of shrunken, a little to my dismay.

61) have you ever peed in the woods? Another bizarrre question. I don’t hang out in the woods, but if there were no toilets within reasonable access, then I would? Pee is aseptic and the entirety of nature does it, plus it’s hardly going to get in anyone’s way?

63) do you prefer chicken nuggets from Wendy’s or McDonalds?I don’t even think we HAVE Wendy’s, so I guess the golden arches win by default?65) what do you wear to bed? Pajamas, because it’s usually cold? Unless we’re talking about entertaining…

67) what are your hobbies?Answering memes and solving the internet’s problems. Sometimes I draw. 69) do you play an instrument?I cannot manipulate notes like I manipulate words. I sort of learned the recorder and piano a little bit, but despite lovely encouragement, I don’t have the time nor the patience it would take to be good at music. I find it a very attractive quality in others, though!

71) tea or coffee?Coffee in the morning, tea at teatime (duh) and hot chocolate at night.73) do you want to get married?I would like to end with a relationship that is stable, comfortable and friendship blended with being lovers. It’s not that a piece of paper has meaning, rather that being sure you want to be with someone for the forseeable future is what makes it special. Sometimes it takes being willing to discuss that bit of paper for both parties to truly know how sure they are to share each others’ lives. 75) are you going to change your last name when you get married? Definitely not intending to. Sometimes my last name is a pain, because nobody can spell it, or pronounce it. And it’s so long that hyphenating would make it even more of a pain than it already is. But I’m attached to my name, it’s a part of me and my ethnic identity, and definitely am not going into relationships with an idea that I “have to take my husband’s name”. They can take mine, if they wish. Perhaps I’d be tempted to if someone’s name was just incredibly awesome, who knows? I would rarely rule anything out before the fact. But I certainly don’t intend to.

77) do you miss anyone right now? Yep. Don’t we all?

79) do you believe in ghosts?I’ve never seen one, and I’d rather not, thanks. I believe in not tempting fate and staying in my own lane, paranormally speaking. 81) last person you calledFunnily enough, just a work colleague. I missed a call at work (we were both on call) , and called them after the shift, which is when I realised they’d called. Fortunately we’d already taken care of the situation.

Anything that's really cheap or really processed (basically most candy and junk food, except for some quality chocolate). Also coconut. Fuck coconut. 2. If you could choose one minor inconvenience to never have to deal with again, what would you pick?
As of right now, having to remember princess lessons in MidCin and IkeSen. If I could just store infinite stamina (or at least like 10 hours) I'd be such a happy camper. 3. Have you got any useless talents? Idk if it counts as a talent but I can do multiplication, addition, and subtraction from left-to-right. 4.  11. Butterfly effect question! Has there ever been a seemingly minor decision you’ve made (at the time) that ended up having a profound influence on your life? I have absolutely no clue tbh.
 12. Name your most irrational fear/aversion. The inevitability of my own death. 13. Are there any fictional characters you find especially relatable? Yes, and the first that comes to mind is Edea Lee from the Bravely Default series. She's the daughter of the Grand Marshal (king) of her kingdom, and was raised to follow in her father's footsteps. Though her somewhat biased education had led her to see the world in a very black/white way, her world view is forced to change as she journeys out into the world and joins the other heroes of the story. She wants to make her father and teachers proud, but does not hesitate to disobey them and her state when she sees the consequences of their actions. She's proud, headstrong, and kind (plus she loves food lmao I love Edea and I could talk about her for hours and I'm literally going to name my firstborn daughter after her and no one can stop me). 
 14. If you drink, what kind of drunk are you? Alternatively, what sort of person are you at parties? I don't really go to parties unless they're small gatherings with friends or family, and the idea of drinking in public terrifies me so idk I'll figure it out eventually.
 15. Do you fall in love easily? Or does it usually take a long time for you to trust someone? It will definitely take awhile. I can get crushes, sure, but if and when I start looking for someone to spend/dedicate my whole life to, I plan to find the right one the first time.
 16. Would you rather have one close friend or 100 casual friends? This is going to sound shallow but 100 casual friends. No matter how perfect we are as friends, only spending time with one person wears thin after awhile.
 17. Do you consider yourself to be more of a slob or a neat-freak? Neat-freak, but not extremely so. I just like me some good organization!
 18. Describe a place (imaginary or real) that you would find incredibly cozy. When I think of cozy, one old southern home in my dad's family comes to mind. In the middle of a town as rural as can be, it's a large, charming white cottage surrounded by massive oak trees. The only sounds that reach it are the occasional train the crosses the edge of the property. Whether I'd be out on the porch swing overlooking the yard, the sunroom in the back with an old couch along an entire wall with a massive window, or even perched in one of the massive oaks on the property, I'd stay there forever and nap.

Like I said, I'm totally naming my first daughter Edea. 20. What was your favorite book as a child? When I was in second grade, I used to get in massive trouble for reading the Young Nancy Drew series in math class. Back when I was in high school I would watch 12 at the same time (like, as the episodes came out). For the past 2, 3 (?) years I have sort of stopped myself from watching TV shows. Because I get obsessed with things. Like with Ed right now lol. I will still occasionally watch an episode (like last night), but I’m really behind on everything. My enthusiasm for TV shows is probably what led to me studying English in the end. And Supernatural was the common interest that matched my boyfriend and I. 😊  49) Tattoos: None. 50) Right or left hand?: Right hand, though I can write with my left hand if I have to. FIRST…

51) Surgery: Does a lumbar puncture (spinal tap) count? Probably not. Felt like one though. I have a medical phobia and about a year ago they suspected meningitis, so I had to have one. One of the most traumatic experiences I have had. They had to sedate me because I was so panicked. The whole hospital must’ve heard me scream and I pushed a doctor away (not on purpose, but if I’m yelling “STAY AWAY FROM ME” in your face and you approach me with a weird object that looked like something they were going to do the puncture with, well…) So they ended up sedating me and luckily I don’t remember a thing from the procedure itself. But they must have hit something, because my legs were numb and I couldn’t feel whether my bladder was full or not for like a week after. I’d just go to the toilet at times where I would usually go because I just didn’t feel anything. Plus I couldn’t stand up for longer than 10 minutes or my legs would collapse. Luckily all that went back to normal, though I still get this weird back pain from time to time that I associate with that. I don’t know how I will ever survive a proper surgery… 😭 I just can’t handle pain. 52) Piercing: Still don’t have one. 53) Sport: I don’t know which one came first, horse-riding or table tennis. Started both when I was 11. I stopped playing table tennis when I was 20, I stopped riding horses when I was 16. I don’t miss any of my hobbies that I’ve given up, except for horse-riding. 54) Vacation: We used to have a caravan/travel trailer when I was little. We’d go to the same camp site every year where we had our own spot with a shed and stuff. We’d go there in the weekends and during the summer. Later we bought a mobile home at a different camp site, but that camp site closed down when I was 20. Now going to see my boyfriend (and him coming over to see me) just counts as vacation for me. He’s a saint (Saint Nicholas) who gives presents to kids (in the weeks leading up to and) on the 5th of December. Some parents decide to have their kids believe in both, but I think most Dutch kids grow up with the idea that Santa Claus (or the Christmas Man, as we call him) is simply fake. Not sure why little me never questioned the existence of Sinterklaas, though… 88) Kiss on the first date?: Since I met my boyfriend online and the first time I met him in RL was after months of Skyping and already sort of being in a relationship, yes? 89) Angels?: No. I don’t believe in a higher power, though sometimes I wish I did.

2: When was the last time you cried? Probably while watching a documentary.

4: What is your favorite lunch meat? Hmm, I don’t really eat lunch meat much... I like wrapping ham around a cucumber. It’s delicious.

5: Do you have kids? No.

6: If you were another person, would you be friends with you? I honestly don’t know. If I were the same person I am now but in a different person, I probably wouldn’t because I am somewhat lazy at making friends, and so if that was a two-sided thing, I guess it would all be up to Fate.

7: Do you use sarcasm? Yes. Very often. It doesn’t always translate well to text, though...

8: Do you still have your tonsils? Yes.

9: Would you bungee jump? Maybe... maybe not.

10: What is your favorite kind of cereal? I like Cheerios, and the honey nut kind.

11: Do you untie your shoes when you take them off? ...nope. (I should, though.)

18: What was the last thing you ate? A rather lousy burrito. The person who made it asked if I wanted salsa and then put some on in such a way that when I went to take a bite, the first two inches of burrito was just salsa and tortilla.

19: What are you listening to right now? The sound of my keyboard tapping furtively.

20: If you were a crayon, what color would you be? Some kind of cerulean/turquoise. Maybe they’d call me “ocean blue” or something.

21: Favorite smell? Campfire smoke, baking banana bread, Golden Curry.

22: Who was the last person you spoke to on the phone? Probably my boss. I don’t really do phone calls much.

23: Favorite sport to watch? Funnily enough, the only sport I’ve really spent any time watching outside of the Olympics is MotoGP (motorcycle racing). I used to get up early (like at 5am) to watch it live with my dad when I was young.

24: Hair color? Brown! It looks pretty dark, but it’s not black.

26: Do you wear contacts? Noooo... I kind of want to though, just to see if that improves my vision at all. I am quite blind.

29. Last movie you watched? I Am Not Your Negro. I highly recommend watching it as soon as you get the chance.

31: Summer or winter? It depends... based on the weather where I live, I’d say summer; then again, winter has such fond ideals associated with it, such as christmas and snow days and things like peppermint or hot cocoa or pine trees. But summer is nice too. The ocean is glorious.

32: Hugs or kisses? Hugs! I love getting hugs! It doesn’t happen much.

33: What book are you currently reading? Giovanni’s Room, by James Baldwin.

34: Who do you miss right now? A greyhound that we used to have when I lived with my parents.

35: What is on your mouse pad? ...my fingerprints. (It’s a laptop mouse thing.)

36: What is the last TV program you watched? Daredevil, season 2. I’m doing a video essay on how Frank and Elektra are used to contrast Matt.

37: What is the best sound? Rain. Acoustic music, especially cello/bass/classical guitar. (Oh god classical guitar sounds so amazing...)

Favorite book in the series: The Miserable Mill, believe it or not. Far be it from being the best book in the series, of course, but I’ve got a very soft spot in my heart for it.

When did you read them for the first time: I must have been about 13, because I was in middle school when I really got into it for the first time. Funnily enough, I never actually made it through the whole series -- I got to maybe the first couple chapters of The Grim Grotto, kinda figured out the rest of the story from various online sources, then forgot everything that happened in each book until I finally read them all properly. If I could go back and do it properly, I definitely would.  


Favorite character: Jacques Snicket has stolen my heart. Other all-stars include Charles, Hector, and Uncle Monty.

Kit/Dewey or Kit/Olaf: Kit/Dewey 100%. A good way to make me sad is to remind me that she kept talking and asking about him in The End without knowing he was dead.

Favorite Quagmire: I like all three, though Duncan seems to be sort of underappreciated compared to his brother and sister. Therefore, I shall pick up the slack.--


Favorite Baudelaire: I like all three of them too! I’ll say Klaus because he’s so salty and sassy but at the same time I think he cries the most out of all three kids, and I can appreciate a child character who behaves in ways a child might despite his maturity and intelligence.


Favorite Snicket: Jacques, naturally. ;y 


Did you see the 2004 movie in theaters: No, though I saw it pretty soon after it came out on DVD. I mostly remember the ads for it playing on Nickelodeon.


Thoughts about the movie: I think it’s enjoyable enough as a standalone film, but as an adaptation of a franchise it was a little sloppy. The allusions to VFD are too scarce for a fan of the series to enjoy and too vague for newcomers to understand, and Carrey’s performance was really overhyped in commercials and was played much more comedically than I think it needed to be. Overall it could have done much better, but it wasn’t so terrible I wouldn’t watch it again.

Thoughts about ATWQ: IT’S SO GOOD. Like ASOUE was a great series I enjoyed very much, but ATWQ is different in its style and substance that it’s a nice combination of fresh and familiar. 11/10 would read again

Favorite ATWQ character: I love so many of the characters, but if I had to choose a number one spot it’d be a three-way tie between Moxie Mallahan, Dashiell Qwerty, and Jake Hix. 


Favorite moment in ASOUE: Oh there’s definitely a few. Klaus saving Charles from the saw, Friday telling Olaf off and the other islanders not buying his disguise, any time an adult was kind and gentle to the children, and Kit driving like a maniac then casually mentioning her pregnancy are some good ones. One I wouldn’t say was quite my favorite but one that was definitely impactful was Dewey’s death. I had been reading the series over Skype to my friend, and it was the first time I’d ever read through the series in its entirety when I finally got to that book. I knew it was coming, I knew how and when and why it was going to happen. And yet, as the words started leaving my mouth, I could hear and feel myself getting choked up over a guy I’d known was a goner for years. I didn’t cry, but it was the only moment I really got physically emotional over something that happened in the series.


Would you ever get an eye tattoo: This is the only tattoo I have ever seriously considered getting. 


Fire-fighter or Fire-starter: Fire-fighter, if only to be the really edgy morally ambiguous one who has no issue suggesting we just assassinate the villains who pose a legitimate threat to people.


Least favorite character: Is Poe a cliche answer? I don’t care, that guy sucked. Dishonorable mention goes to Stew Mitchum.


Did the Quagmires survive: YES, EVERYONE IN THAT HOT AIR MOBILE HOME DID  


In your opinion, what is the great unknown: It’s very tempting to think it might have been the Bombinating Beast, though another interesting idea might be that it’s some sort of submarine. After all, having the Quagmires, Hector, and the Widdershins reuniting just to get gobbled up by some sea monster seems a little lame.


Did you like the way the series ended: I do wish a there had been more loose ends tied up, but I like how the ambiguity gives us opportunity to imagine where the Baudelaires went from there. The Beatrice Letters does a very good job of giving some slight insight as to what happened after they left the island, but not enough that we have any clear, concise answers.


What question do you most want answered by Handler: In the series proper and especially in ATWQ, there’s a lot of focus on Lemony’s relationship with Kit. Yet not nearly as much attention is paid to Jacques; the narrative of his death is kind of gleaned over in comparison to Kit’s, and he doesn’t even show up in ATWQ outside of sparse references. So my question is, what was the nature of Jacques and Lemony’s relationship both in childhood and adulthood? Jacques and Kit? How did his death affect them?

What are you most excited for about the Netflix series: MY SERIES IS FINALLY GETTING A PROPER, COMPLETE ADAPTATION 


Binge watching or spacing out the episodes: I binged. I was a caveman for 8 hours the day it premiered. I will binge again when the second season is released.
